This paper investigates the intervention effect and mechanism of Banxia Xiexin Decoction(BXD) on colitis-associated colorectal cancer(CAC) infected with Fusobacterium nucleatum(Fn). C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into a control group, Fn group, CAC group [azoxymethane(AOM)/dextran sulfate sodium salt(DSS)](AOM/DSS), model group, and BXD group. Except for the control and AOM/DSS groups, the mice in the other groups were orally administered with Fn suspension twice a week. The AOM/DSS group, model group, and BXD group were also injected with a single dose of 10 mg·kg~(-1) AOM combined with three cycles of 2.5% DSS taken intragastrically. The BXD group received oral administration of BXD starting from the second cycle until the end of the experiment. The general condition and weight changes of the mice were monitored during the experiment, and the disease activity index(DAI) was calculated. At the end of the experiment, the colon length and weight of the mice in each group were compared. Hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining was used to observe the pathological changes in the colon tissue. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was used to detect the levels of interleukin(IL)-2, IL-4, and IL-6 inflammatory factors in the serum. Immunohistochemistry(IHC) was used to detect the expression of Ki67, E-cadherin, and ß-catenin in the colon tissue. Western blot was used to detect the protein content of Wnt3a, ß-catenin, E-cadherin, annexin A1, cyclin D1, and glycogen synthase kinase-3ß(GSK-3ß) in the colon tissue. The results showed that compared with the control group, the Fn group had no significant lesions. The mice in the AOM/DSS group and model group had decreased body weight, increased DAI scores, significantly increased colon weight, and significantly shortened colon length, with more significant lesions in the model group. At the same time, the colon histology of the model group showed more severe adenomas, inflammatory infiltration, and cellular dysplasia. The levels of IL-4 and IL-6 in the serum were significantly increased, while the IL-2 content was significantly decreased. The IHC results showed low expression of E-cadherin and high expression of Ki67 and ß-catenin in the model group, with a decreased protein content of E-cadherin and GSK-3ß and an increased protein content of Wnt3a, ß-catenin, annexin A1, and cyclin D1. After intervention with BXD, the body weight of the mice increased; the DAI score decreased; the colon length increased, and the tumor decreased. The histopathology showed reduced tumor proliferation and reduced inflammatory infiltration. The levels of IL-6 and IL-4 in the serum were significantly decreased, while the IL-2 content was increased. Meanwhile, the expression of E-cadherin was upregulated, and that of Ki67 and ß-catenin was downregulated. The protein content of E-cadherin and GSK-3ß increased, while that of Wnt3a, ß-catenin, annexin A1, and cyclin D1 decreased. In conclusion, BXD can inhibit CAC infected with Fn, and its potential mechanism may be related to the inhibition of Fn binding to E-cadherin, the decrease in annexin A1 protein level, and the regulation of the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway.

Pneumoconiosis' pathogenesis is still unclear and specific drugs for its treatment are lacking. Analysis of series transcriptome data often uses a single comparison method, and there are few reports on using such data to predict the treatment of pneumoconiosis with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Here, we proposed a new method for analyzing series transcriptomic data, series difference analysis (SDA), and applied it to pneumoconiosis. By comparison with 5 gene sets including existing pneumoconiosis-related genes and gene set functional enrichment analysis, we demonstrated that the new method was not inferior to two existing traditional analysis methods. Furthermore, based on the TCM-drug target interaction network, we predicted the TCM corresponding to the common pneumoconiosis-related genes obtained by multiple methods, and combined them with the high-frequency TCM for its treatment obtained through literature mining to form a new TCM formula for it. After feeding it to pneumoconiosis modeling mice for two months, compared with the untreated group, the coat color, mental state and tissue sections of the mice in the treated group were markedly improved, indicating that the new TCM formula has a certain efficacy. Our study provides new insights into method development for series transcriptomic data analysis and treatment of pneumoconiosis.

BACKGROUND: The causal association between particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains inconclusive, and the mediators of the association have yet to be explored. AIMS: We aimed to assess the potential causal relationship between PM2.5 and AD, and to investigate the mediating role of dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS). SUBJECTS AND METHODS: We implemented a two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) study to examine the genetic predisposition to PM2.5 exposure and its association with AD. The inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method served as the primary analytical tool to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). RESULTS: There were 6 and 4 genetic variants associated with DHEAS and PM2.5, respectively. Based on the multivariable MR analysis, we found that after adjusting for DHEAS, each standard deviation increase in PM2.5 was associated with the risk of AD (OR: 2.96, 95% CI: 1.33, 6.58, p = 0.00769). The MR Egger intercept test did not detect horizontal pleiotropy for PM2.5 (P-pleiotropy = 0.879) and DHEAS(P-pleiotropy = 0.941). According to the results of the mediation analysis, DHEAS accounted for 18.3% of the association between PM2.5 and AD. CONCLUSION: Our findings affirm a significant causal association between PM2.5 exposure and AD, with DHEAS playing a mediating role in this relationship.

To explore the efficacy and safety of fractional micro-needling radiofrequency (FMRF) in the treatment of enlarged pores on the cheek in a Chinese cohort. Patients with enlarged facial pores who underwent FMRF between January 2020 and December 2022 were included in this study. Blinded clinical assessments were performed by two independent dermatologists using a six-grade photographic enlarged pore scale and a quartile grading scale. Patients were asked to rate the degree of pain related to treatment on a visual analog scale (VAS), with scores ranging from 0 (no pain) to 10 (worst pain ever). A paired t-test was used to analyze the six-grade photographic enlarged pore scores. A total of 22 patients received three consecutive sessions of FMRF treatment, with intervals of 1-3 months, and underwent follow-up as scheduled. The mean six-grade photographic enlarged score was 3.55 ± 0.96 at baseline, while the score decreased significantly to 2.59 ± 0.59 after three treatment sessions (P < 0.05). The improvement score of the patients, assessed by two independent dermatologists, was 2.31 ± 0.71, according to the quartile grading scale. The mean VAS score was 6.42 ± 1.44. FMRF is effective and safe for the treatment of enlarged facial pores after three sessions.

BACKGROUND: Symmetrical NMR spectroscopy, such as Total Correlation Spectroscopy (TOCSY) and other homonuclear spectroscopy, displays symmetry in chemical shift but are generally not symmetrical in terms of intensity, which constitutes a pivotal branch of multidimensional NMR spectroscopy and offers a robust tool for elucidating the structures and dynamics of complex samples, particularly in the context of biological macromolecules. Non-Uniform Sampling (NUS) stands as a critical technique for accelerating multidimensional NMR experiments. However, symmetrical NMR spectroscopy inherently presents dynamic peak intensities, where cross peaks tend to be substantially weaker compared to diagonal peaks. Recovering these weaker cross peaks from NUS data poses a significant challenge, often resulting in compromised data quality. RESULTS: We enhance the reconstruction quality of NUS symmetrical NMR spectroscopy based on the assumption that the asymmetry in intensity is mild. Regarding the sampling schedule, we employ the symmetrical sampling structure integrated with Poisson sampling schedule to enhance the efficiency of data acquisition. In term of the reconstruction algorithm, we propose the new method by incorporating hard and soft symmetrical constraints into our recently developed L1-norm-based Compressed Sensing (CS) method known as Sparse Complex-valued REconstruction Enabled by Newton method (SCREEN). Additionally, we propose a two-step reconstruction strategy that separately addresses diagonal and cross peaks. In this two-step strategy, cross peaks are effectively reconstructed by excluding the stronger diagonal peaks. Extensive experimental results validate the effectiveness of our proposed methodology. SIGNIFICANCE: This method enhances the overall quality of the reconstructed NUS symmetrical NMR spectra, especially in terms of cross peaks, thereby enriching the interpretation of spectral information. Furthermore, it boosts the robustness towards regularization parameters, facilitating a user-friendly experience.

Two-dimensional (2D) J-resolved spectroscopy provides valuable information on J-coupling constants for molecular structure analysis by resolving one-dimensional (1D) spectra. However, it is challenging to decipher the J-coupling connectivity in 2D J-resolved spectra because the J-coupling connectivity cannot be directly provided. In addition, 2D homonuclear correlation spectroscopy (COSY) can directly elucidate molecular structures by tracking the J-coupling connectivity between protons. However, this method is limited by the problem of spectral peak crowding and is only suitable for simple sample systems. To fully understand the intuitive coupling relationship and coupling constant information, we propose a three-dimensional (3D) COSY method called CTCOSY-JRES (Constant-Time COrrelation SpectroscopY and J-REsolved Spectroscopy) in this paper. By combining the J-resolved spectrum with the constant-time COSY technique, a doubly decoupled COSY spectrum can be provided while preserving the J-coupling constant along an additional dimension, ensuring high-resolution analysis of J-coupling connectivity and J-coupling information. Moreover, compression sensing and fold-over correction techniques are introduced to accelerate experimental acquisition. The CTCOSY-JRES method has been successfully validated in a variety of sample systems, including industrial, agricultural, and biopharmaceutical samples, revealing complex coupling interactions and providing deeper insights into the resolution of molecular structures.

Nanotechnology is one of the most recent approaches employed to defend plants against both biotic and abiotic stress including heavy metals such as Cadmium (Cd). In this study, we evaluated the effects of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) in alleviating Cd stress in Tetrastigma hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg. Compared with Cd treatment, TiO2 NPs decreased leaf Cd concentration, restored Cd exposure-related reduction in the biomass to about 69% of control and decreased activities of antioxidative enzymes. Integrative analysis of transcriptome and metabolome revealed 325 differentially expressed genes associated with TiO2 NP treatment, most of which were enriched in biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. Among them, the flavonoid and phenylpropanoid biosynthetic pathways were significantly regulated to improve the growth of T. hemsleyanum when treated with Cd. In the KEGG Markup Language (KGML) network analysis, we found some commonly regulated pathways between Cd and Cd+TiO2 NP treatment, including phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, ABC transporters, and isoflavonoid biosynthesis, indicating their potential core network positions in controlling T. hemsleyanum response to Cd stress. Overall, our findings revealed a complex response system for tolerating Cd, encompassing the transportation, reactive oxygen species scavenging, regulation of gene expression, and metabolite accumulation in T. hemsleyanum. Our results indicate that TiO2 NP can be used to reduce Cd toxicity in T. hemsleyanum.

Due to aging populations and changes in lifestyle, cardiovascular diseases including cardiomyopathy, hypertension, and atherosclerosis, are the leading causes of death worldwide. The heart is a complicated organ composed of multicellular types, including cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, and immune cells. Cellular specialization and complex interplay between different cell types are crucial for the cardiac tissue homeostasis and coordinated function of the heart. Mounting studies have demonstrated that dysfunctional cells and disordered cardiac microenvironment are closely associated with the pathogenesis of various cardiovascular diseases. In this paper, we discuss the composition and the homeostasis of cardiac tissues, and focus on the role of cardiac environment and underlying molecular mechanisms in various cardiovascular diseases. Besides, we elucidate the novel treatment for cardiovascular diseases, including stem cell therapy and targeted therapy. Clarification of these issues may provide novel insights into the prevention and potential targets for cardiovascular diseases.

Aluminium ions (Al3+) are widely present in industries and daily life and are closely related to human health and environmental protection. Therefore, it is crucial to detect their concentration. In this paper, a convenient and reliable small molecule fluorescent probe based on a dicyanoisophorone Schiff base and 2-pyridinecarbohydrazide has been developed. The probe is capable of selectively detecting Al3+ with the advantages of near-infrared emission (maximum emission wavelength of 625 nm), good selectivity, high sensitivity (detection limit of 2.18 × 10-7 M) and fast response time (15 s). It has good potential for rapid detection and visual tracking of Al3+ in aqueous solutions and plant bodies.

Research on the comprehensive utilization of sour jujube and its beneficial properties to human health has attracted extensive attention. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the bioactive profile of sour jujube and future trends in applications. The research advancements within this field from 2000 to 2023 were addressed using the Web of Science database and VOSviewer. Among the 322 results, the most frequent keywords of bioactivity are flavonoids, antioxidants, saponins, insomnia, polyphenols, terpenoids and anti-inflammatory; the most studied parts of sour jujube are seeds, fruits and leaves; the published articles with high citations mainly focus on identification, biological effects and different parts distribution of bioactive compounds. The bioactivity of various parts of sour jujube was reviewed considering their application potential. The seeds, rich in flavonoids, saponins and alkaloids, exhibit strong effects on central nervous system diseases and have been well-developed in pharmacology, healthcare products and functional foods. The pulp has antioxidant properties and is used to develop added-value foods (e.g., juice, vinegar, wine). The leaves can be used to make tea and flowers are good sources of honey; their extracts are rich sources of flavonoids and saponins, which show promising medicinal effects. The branches, roots and bark have healing properties in traditional folk medicine. Overall, this study provides a reference for future applications of sour jujube in food and medicine fields.

Sexual dimorphism has been observed in the incidence and prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC), with men generally exhibiting a slightly higher incidence than women. Research suggests that this difference may be attributed to variations in sex steroid hormone levels and the gut microbiome. The gut microbiome in CRC shows variations in composition and function between the sexes, leading to the concept of 'microgenderome' and 'sex hormone-gut microbiome axis.' Conventional research indicates that estrogens, by promoting a more favorable gut microbiota, may reduce the risk of CRC. Conversely, androgens may have a direct pro-tumorigenic effect by increasing the proportion of opportunistic pathogens. The gut microbiota may also influence sex hormone levels by expressing specific enzymes or directly affecting gonadal function. However, this area remains controversial. This review aims to explore the differences in sex hormone in CRC incidence, the phenomenon of sexual dimorphism within the gut microbiome, and the intricate interplay of the sex hormone-gut microbiome axis in CRC. The objective is to gain a better understanding of these interactions and their potential clinical implications, as well as to introduce innovative approaches to CRC treatment.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Colitis is an important risk factor for the occurrence of colorectal cancer (CRC), and the colonization of Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn) in the intestines accelerates this transformation process. Banxia Xiexin Decoction (BXD), originating from Shanghanlun, is a classic prescription for treating gastrointestinal diseases. Current researches indicate that BXD can effectively delay the colitis-to-cancer transition, but it is still unclear whether it can inhibit Fn colonization to achieve this delaying effect. AIM OF STUDY: This study explored the effect and mechanism of BXD in inhibiting Fn intestinal colonization to delay colitis-to-cancer transition. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We constructed a mouse model of colitis-to-cancer transition by regularly gavaging Fn combined with azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sodium sulfate (DSS), and administered BXD by gavage. We monitored the body weight of mice, measured the length and weight of their colons, and calculated the disease activity index (DAI) score. The growth status of colon tumors was observed by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, and the changes in gut microbiota in each group of mice were detected by 16S rDNA analysis. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of E-cadherin and ß-catenin in colon tissues, and immunofluorescence was used to observe the infiltration of M2 macrophages in colon tissues. In cell experiments, we established a co-culture model of Fn and colon cancer cells and intervened with BXD-containing serum. Malignant behaviors such as cell proliferation, invasion, and migration were detected, as well as changes in their cell cycle. We examined the protein levels of E-cadherin, ß-catenin, Axin2, and Cyclin D1 in each group were detected by Western blot. We used US1 strain (fadA-) as a control and observed the effects of BXD-containing serum on Fn attachment and invasion of colon cancer cells through attachment and invasion experiments. RESULTS: BXD can inhibit the colitis-to-cancer transition in mice infected with Fn, reduce crypt structure damage, improve gut microbiota dysbiosis, upregulate E-cadherin and decrease ß-catenin expression, and reduce infiltration of M2 macrophages, thus inhibiting the process of colitis-to-cancer transition. Cell experiments revealed that BXD-containing serum can inhibit the proliferation, migration, and invasion of colon cancer cells infected with Fn and regulate their cell cycle. More importantly, we found that BXD-containing serum can inhibit the binding of Fn's FadA adhesin to E-cadherin, reduce Fn's attachment and invasion of colon cancer cells, thereby downregulating the E-cadherin/ß-catenin signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS: These findings show that BXD can inhibit Fn colonization by interfering with the binding of FadA to E-cadherin, reducing the activation of the E-cadherin/ß-catenin signaling pathway, and ultimately delaying colitis-to-cancer transition.

OBJECTIVE: Few studies have examined the effects of air pollution on the risk of sarcopenia, especially pollution in indoor settings. We explored the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of household use of solid fuel for cooking and heating, separately and simultaneously, with risk of sarcopenia. METHODS: Cross-sectional and follow-up data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study were used. Multivariable-adjusted generalized linear models and Cox proportional hazards regression models were performed to estimate the odds ratio and hazard ratio for sarcopenia, respectively. RESULTS: 11,494 (median age: 57.0 years; 47.4 % males) and 7483 (median age: 57.0 years; 46.9 % males) participants were included in the cross-sectional and longitudinal study, respectively. After fully adjusting for covariates, including outdoor concentration of particulate matter (PM2.5), both the use of solid fuels for cooking and use for heating were positively associated with incident sarcopenia in the longitudinal analyses, with hazard ratios (95 % confidence interval) of 1.56 (1.28-1.89) and 1.26 (1.04-1.52), respectively. Moreover, significant multiplicative and/or additive interactions were observed between age, smoking and cooking with solid fuel and risk of sarcopenia (all P for interaction <0.05). Similar results were found in the cross-sectional analyses. CONCLUSIONS: Household use of solid fuel was significantly associated with a higher risk of sarcopenia, while ageing and smoking had synergetic effects with burning solid fuels on the risk of sarcopenia. Our results highlight the importance of taking multi-pronged measures with respect to both air pollution and healthy lifestyle to prevent sarcopenia and promote healthy ageing.

Firm conclusions regarding the differential effects of the maladaptive consequences of acute versus chronic stress on the etiology and symptomatology of stress disorders await a model that isolates chronicity as a variable for studying the differential effects of acute versus chronic stress. This is because most previous studies have confounded chronicity with the total amount of stress. Here, we have modified the stress-enhanced fear learning (SEFL) protocol, which models some aspects of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following an acute stressor, to create a chronic variant that does not have this confound. Comparing results from this new protocol to the acute protocol, we found that chronic stress further potentiates enhanced fear-learning beyond the nonassociative enhancement induced by acute stress. This additional component is not observed when the unconditional stimulus (US) used during subsequent fear learning is distinct from the US used as the stressor, and is enhanced when glucose is administered following stressor exposure, suggesting that it is associative in nature. Furthermore, extinction of stressor-context fear blocks this additional associative component of SEFL as well as reinstatement of generalized fear, suggesting reinstatement of generalized fear may underlie this additional SEFL component.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure in migraine patients with a massive right-to-left shunt (RLS) and white matter lesions (WMLs). Methods: The research focused on migraine patients with a massive RLS who underwent PFO closure in our hospital from June 2020 to June 2021. The study included 51 patients without WMLs (control group, CG) and 27 patients with WMLs (observation group, OG). A 12-month postoperative follow-up survey was conducted to assess headache episodes (frequency and duration), evaluated using the Headache Impact Test-6 (HIT-6) and the Pain Intensity Visual Analog Scale (VAS). The psychological state was also evaluated using the Hamilton Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAMA, HAMD). Adverse reactions during the follow-up were recorded. Results: No significant differences in perioperative and prognostic adverse reactions were observed between OG and CG (P > .05). Both groups showed a reduction in postoperative headache episodes and pain intensity. However, the OG exhibited higher frequency and duration of headache episodes and elevated HIT-6 and VAS scores, resulting in lower clinical efficacy (P < .05). Postoperatively, both groups demonstrated reductions in HAMA and HAMD, with CG showing lower scores compared to OG (P < .05). Logistic regression analysis identified the course of the disease, HIT-6 score, and the presence of WMLs as independent risk factors for the efficacy of PFO closure (P < .05). Conclusions: PFO closure proves effective and safe in treating migraine patients with RLS. However, for those with WMLs, clinical attention should be directed toward the treatment of WMLs.

Background: Given the lack of research on disulfidptosis, our study aimed to dissect its role in pan-cancer and explore the crosstalk between disulfidptosis and cancer immunity. Methods: Based on TCGA, ICGC, CGGA, GSE30219, GSE31210, GSE37745, GSE50081, GSE22138, GSE41613, univariate Cox regression, LASSO regression, and multivariate Cox regression were used to construct the rough gene signature based on disulfidptosis for each type of cancer. SsGSEA and Cibersort, followed by correlation analysis, were harnessed to explore the linkage between disulfidptosis and cancer immunity. Weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) and Machine learning were utilized to make a refined prognosis model for pan-cancer. In particular, a customized, enhanced prognosis model was made for glioma. The siRNA transfection, FACS, ELISA, etc., were employed to validate the function of c-MET. Results: The expression comparison of the disulfidptosis-related genes (DRGs) between tumor and nontumor tissues implied a significant difference in most cancers. The correlation between disulfidptosis and immune cell infiltration, including T cell exhaustion (Tex), was evident, especially in glioma. The 7-gene signature was constructed as the rough model for the glioma prognosis. A pan-cancer suitable DSP clustering was made and validated to predict the prognosis. Furthermore, two DSP groups were defined by machine learning to predict the survival and immune therapy response in glioma, which was validated in CGGA. PD-L1 and other immune pathways were highly enriched in the core blue gene module from WGCNA. Among them, c-MET was validated as a tumor driver gene and JAK3-STAT3-PD-L1/PD1 regulator in glioma and T cells. Specifically, the down-regulation of c-MET decreased the proportion of PD1+ CD8+ T cells. Conclusion: To summarize, we dissected the roles of DRGs in the prognosis and their relationship with immunity in pan-cancer. A general prognosis model based on machine learning was constructed for pan-cancer and validated by external datasets with a consistent result. In particular, a survival-predicting model was made specifically for patients with glioma to predict its survival and immune response to ICIs. C-MET was screened and validated for its tumor driver gene and immune regulation function (inducing t-cell exhaustion) in glioma.

INTRODUCTION: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a group of enzymes that are essential in maintaining extracellular matrix (ECM) homeostasis, regulating inflammation and tissue remodeling. In chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), the overexpression of certain MMPs can contribute to chronic nasal tissue inflammation, ECM remodeling, and tissue repair. AREAS COVERED: This review provides a comprehensive overview of the biological characteristics and functions of the MMP family, particularly focusing on the expression and activity of MMPs in patients with CRS, and delves into their role in the pathogenesis of CRS and their potential as therapeutic targets. EXPERT OPINION: MMPs are important in tissue remodeling and have been implicated in the pathophysiology of CRS. Previous studies have shown that the expression of MMPs is upregulated in the nasal mucosa of patients with CRS and positively correlates with the severity of CRS. However, there is still a large gap in the research content of MMP in CRS, and the specific expression and pathogenic mechanism of MMP still need to be clarified. The significance and value of the ratio of MMP to tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase (TIMP) in diseases still need to be demonstrated. Moreover, further studies are needed to assess the efficacy and safety of biologics that target MMPs in patients with CRS.

Meningiomas rank among the most common intracranial tumors, and surgery stands as the primary treatment modality for meningiomas. The precise subtyping and diagnosis of meningiomas, both before and during surgery, play a pivotal role in enabling neurosurgeons choose the optimal surgical program. In this study, we utilized multiphoton microscopy (MPM) based on 2-photon excited fluorescence and second-harmonic generation to identify 5 common meningioma subtypes. The morphological features of these subtypes were depicted using the MPM multichannel mode. Additionally, we developed 2 distinct programs to quantify collagen content and blood vessel density. Furthermore, the lambda mode of the MPM characterized architectural and spectral features, from which 3 quantitative indicators were extracted. Moreover, we employed machine learning to differentiate meningioma subtypes automatically, achieving high classification accuracy. These findings demonstrate the potential of MPM as a noninvasive diagnostic tool for meningioma subtyping and diagnosis, offering improved accuracy and resolution compared with traditional methods.

Arsenic (As) is a toxic metalloid that causes severe environmental contamination worldwide. Upon exposure to aqueous phases, the As-bearing minerals, such as orpiment (As2S3) and realgar (As4S4), undergo oxidative dissolution, in which biotic and abiotic activities both contributed significant roles. Consequently, the dissolved As and S are rapidly discharged through water transportation to broader regions and contaminate surrounding areas, especially in aquatic environments. Despite both orpiment and realgar are frequently encountered in carbonate-hosted neutral environments, the microbial-mediated oxidative dissolution of these minerals, however, have been primarily investigated under acidic conditions. Therefore, the current study aimed to elucidate microbial-mediated oxidative dissolution under neutral aquatic conditions. The current study demonstrated that the dissolution of orpiment and realgar is synergistically regulated by abiotic (i.e., specific surface area (SSA) of the mineral) and biotic (i.e., microbial oxidation) factors. The initial dissolution of As(III) and S2- from minerals is abiotically impacted by SSA, while the microbial oxidation of As(III) and S2- accelerated the overall dissolution rates of orpiment and realgar. In As-contaminated environments, members of Thiobacillus and Rhizobium were identified as the major populations that mediated oxidative dissolution of orpiment and realgar by DNA-stable isotope probing. This study provides novel insights regarding the microbial-mediated oxidative dissolution process of orpiment and realgar under neutral conditions.

Ethylene is one crucial phytohormone modulating plants' organ development and ripening process, especially in fruits, but its action modes and discrepancies in non-climacteric grape and climacteric peach in these processes remain elusive. This work is focused on the action mode divergences of ethylene during the modulation of the organ development and ripening process in climacteric/non-climacteric plants. We characterized the key enzyme genes in the ethylene synthesis pathway, VvACO1 and PpACO1, and uncovered that their sequence structures are highly conserved, although their promoters exhibit important divergences in the numbers and types of the cis-elements responsive to hormones, implying various responses to hormone signals. Subsequently, we found the two have similar expression modes in vegetative organ development but inverse patterns in reproductive ones, especially in fruits. Then, VvACO1 and PpACO1 were further validated in promoting fruit ripening functions through their transient over-expression/RNAi-expression in tomatoes, of which the former possesses a weaker role than the latter in the fruit ripening process. Our findings illuminated the divergence in the action patterns and function traits of the key VvACO1/PpACO1 genes in the tissue development of climacteric/non-climacteric plants, and they have implications for further gaining insight into the interaction mechanism of ethylene signaling during the modulation of the organ development and ripening process in climacteric/non-climacteric plants.
